March meeting recap: Crystal Bidwell on mindset

3/10/2022

A huge thank you from all of YWL for Crystal Bidwell devoting her evening to share about the importance of mindset in everything: in her life story, her current attitude, and in members of YWL, as well.

Crystal is the senior business manager at Ditesco Services, but it took her a long journey to get to the amazing job she has now, where she is one of the few females at the company. Yet, wherever she is, she thrives.

We started off the evening with a brilliant mixer hosted by Raegan Mossel, our treasurer. She had us take some candies out of a mixed bag, but little did we know she would use our candy choice as question choice for the icebreaker! This gave way to a lively discussion about our goals and leadership perspective.

What makes the lion the "Queen of the Jungle?"
Crystal is excellent at feeding food for thought. She asked, "What makes the lion the queen of the jungle?" She gave us an answer based on the extended metaphor of how the lion relates to her ecosystem--how she knows where she stands, despite what she faces: an elephant or a hyena. But we also explored the question through Crystal's story and activities, wrestling with mindset.

Then, Crystal dove into her life story, which was a big rollercoaster. But, it's amazing to see how she has come out in the end. She shares how her mindset has evolved over her life, from being anxious, to a "get the bag" mentality, to independence, to failed relationships (and now a successful one, as she hopes), to proclaiming, "I love my life!" even through all the trials. Through her story, all of us listeners were able to see the power of her mindset. And through the activities she tasked us with, we were encouraged to examine our identity, core values, and aspirations. These are key to our mindset.
Everyone participated at least once, and never once was the conversation shallow. Crystal is truly an inspiring leader and boss girl.

Feel free to reach out to Crystal at her office number (970) 632-5068 or email crystalbidwell@ditescoservices.com. She would be happy to chat over coffee with you about mindset and everything else.
Thank Crystal!

November 2 general meeting recap

11/9/2021

Meeting Topics
Our November meeting was all about growing your network. Some ways to do this include:
  • Appreciate adults for their time with thank you notes. This will help you be more memorable. Physical or digital notes both work.
  • Make a LinkedIn profile and start adding people you know! Use the filters to search for mentors or jobs.
We also announced the leaders of the YWL board:
  • Melia Henrichsen as president,
  • Iris Li as communications coordinator,
  • Raegan Mossel as treasurer, and
  • Isabelle Denton as vice president.
Another topic we discussed was effective checklists, in honor of #ChecklistDay 2021. Keeping a bullet journal and setting up Notion pages are effective methods to manage your tasks. Find what does and doesn't work for you!

Fall Service Project Announcement
If you'd like to support those who have (had) breast cancer, bring a $5 donation or gift card to places, like a spa, to our next general meeting.  Some action steps you can take are reminding yourself and friends to check for breast cancer and take mammograms.  This is not just for the month of November, but a lifetime thing!  Early detection is crucial.

Upcoming Event!
Our big upcoming event is the Winter Summit panel featuring local female leaders. YWL general members are all invited! Please also invite your friends.  This is a great networking opportunity.  See all details and updates on our Winter Summit page.
